Palm Chip Flip

(141k)

Description Flipping moves using larger coins or poker chips in the palm of the hand.

These tricks really need to be done with large poker chips or large coins. Anything smaller and they just look bad.
Start Hold the hand out palm up and place a stack of three poker chips on the base of the middle and ring fingers. The chips should be against the edge of the palm and resting on the first and second phalanx of the fingers.
Directions
  1. Curl the fingers in so that the chips are now held vertical. Dont let them fall back onto the palm.
  2. Slide the inner chip upwards with the thumb so that it slides up and on top of the other two chips and also on top of the fingertips.
  3. Let the other two chips fall back onto the palm and the top chip fall down onto them on top of the stack.
  4. Tilt the hand forwards and let the three chips rotate 180º onto the fingers and in the original position.
Variations
No Rotation
(164k)
In the main version the chip rotates 180º as it moves from the top of the stack to the bottom of the stack. You can also do the trick without rotating the chip.
  1. Perform Steps 1-3 above so that the coin has rotated 90º to the top of the fingertips.
  2. Now rotate it back 90º with the thumb to place it on the bottom of the stack without it having performed a rotation.
Middle Insertion

  1. Perform Steps 1-2 of the main version.
  2. Use the inner edge of the top chip to pull back on the very top edge of the back chip of the stack so that it falls back onto the palm.
  3. Slide the top chip backwards and drop it down onto the chip on the palm.
  4. Perform Step 4 above.

Step 2 will take a little practice to get working. If you position the chips at the right spot where the base of the fingers meet the palm then you should be able to arrange for the back chip to be slightly higher than the other one. This makes a nice edge to pull back on when seperating the two chips.
When doing Step 3 there are two options. The first and easiest is to just let it fall down between the two so that it has not performed a rotation. A nice version is to pull back on the chip further with the thumb so that it falls back into the stack having performed a 180º rotation.
Double Rotation
(149k)
  1. Start as above but rest the chips on the first phalanx of the middle finger.
  2. Perform step two in the original version.
  3. Let the inner edge of the top chip rest against the crease where the base of the thumb joins the palm. Now pull in with the tip of the thumb on the far edge of the chip and move the thumb back out of the way taking the top chip with it.
  4. Pull the second chip up with the index and ring fingers and rotate it 180º with the middle finger. Let the chip slide down onto the bottom chip.
  5. Release the grip with the thumb so that its chip rotates 180º down onto the palm, then another 180º rotation down onto the stack.
