Gangster Spin

(136k)

Description In this trick the top coin of a stack is spun in the fingers.

I have a vague recollection of seeing a gangster type character performing this trick in an old movie, which is where the name comes from.
Start Hold the hand out palm up and place a stack of three coins flatwise on the first phalanx of the middle and ring fingers.
Directions
  1. Using the thumb push the top coin away from you off the stack and onto the index finger.
  2. Thumb pulls back and up on the far edge of the coin rotating it 180º backwards onto the stack.
Comments You can speed it up by flipping over the top coin with the index finger instead of the thumb in Step 2.
Variations
Variation 1
Instead of rotating the top coin back into the stack slide it straight underneath the other coins to the bottom of the stack. You will need to tilt the hand with the index finger lower for this to work smoothly.

Variation 2

Perform the spin as above but instead of rotating the coin back onto the top of the stack rotate it in place so that it finishes the rotation on the index finger. Now pull the coin back into the bottom of the stack.

Variation 3
  1. Start as in Step 1 above but instead of pushing just the top coin forward you push the top two coins forward. Seperate the index and middle fingers during the push and let the middle coin slip down to be held flatwise between the sides of the index and middle fingers. The top coin should continue as for the normal spin to finish on top of the index finger. Make sure the middle coin doesnt slip down to far, you want a fair bit of it extending above the fingers for the next move.
  2. Push forward with the thumb on the middle coin and move it to the top of  the coin on the index finger.
  3. Slide the two coins from the index finger back to the top of the original stack.
Variation 4
Instead of pushing the coin onto the index finger push it onto the tips of the middle and ring fingers. Now curl the index and middle fingers in so the the coin flips 180º back onto the stack.
