Chip Counting

Description Not really a trick but neat anyway. Dealers in casinos use this method to quickly count the number of chips in a large stack.
Start Place a stack of 20 or more chips on the table in front of you.
Directions
  1. Pick up five chips from the top of the stack and place them next to the stack.
  2. Repeat until you have many stacks of five and can easily determine the number of chips on the original stack.
  3. Replace the stacks back on the original stack.
Comments
When done quickly it can look fairly neat. It just takes practice to be able to pick up the right number of chips each time.

You can also arrange the chips into structures rather than just a simple line of stacks. A common version is when you have more chips than evenly fit into the stacks. For example start with 23 chips, quickly split them into four stacks of five. You now have three leftover chips that can be placed on top of each adjacent pair of stacks making a pyramid type structure.
