Bounce To Stack

(89k)

Description This trick involves bouncing a coin of the table to the top of a stack of coins.
Start Place a stack of 8-10 coins on the table in front of you. Wider coins work better for this trick.
Directions Take the top coin of the stack, bounce it edgewise off the table so that when it comes up it lands on top of the stack of coins.
Comments This is one of those easy to explain, hard to master tricks. It wont take long to get it working once or twice, but will take a fair while before you can do it predictably.

You can bounce the coin to the front or back of the stack.

You will need to experiment with how far away from the stack you bounce the coin, how hard, and the angle of the coin as it hits the table. The table surface will play a bit part on how the bounce has to be performed. A springy surface will mean you can just drop the coin naturally. A harder surface will require a more forceful bounce.

Variations Once you have a decent success rate try bouncing multiple coins onto the stack in quick succession.

Super Hard Variation: Here is one I am working on with limited success:

  1. Place the stack on the table and pull the top coin (Coin A) back towards you 1/3 of its diameter so that the closest third of the coin is hanging of the edge of the stack.
  2. Bounce another coin (Coin B) of the table so it hits the underside of Coin A, knocking it off the stack. This part isnt too hard, the really hard bit is ensuring Coin B now lands on top of the stack.
Something else I have been trying is to hold two coins in the same hand (one between the thumb and index fingers and one between the middle and ring fingers) and position them on opposite sides of the stack (one in front of the stack and one behind). Now drop one coin after the other so they both bounce up onto the stack. It seems like it will work but I dont have it solid yet.
